YES, that would be in reference to the 3, YES, 3, tornadoes that touched down here in our little town and neighboring town today, February 29th. LEAP DAY!
If Leap Days bring this sort of weather...I am glad that it only comes around every few years!
The silver lining in all of this...only one person injured, a broken arm! God is so GOOD!
It could have been so much worse! It all happened within yards of our schools and daycare that housed our own children today along with many more!
Thankfully the daycare Jenna attends has a basement and the kids had fun playing around / camping out down there and thought it was fun. They lost power for a little while, but it soon came back on.
Meanwhile the kids and staff at Jagger's school spent the good part of the morning up until lunch taking cover in the hallways and bathrooms. They lost power and the generators kicked on so they could finish their day.
During all of this my hubby was working local EMS today and I was at work in our neighboring county (in our storm shelters for a few hours). Thankfully we were able to still access the internet, use our phones, and listen to radios to keep up with exactly what was going on. I was able to keep up with what was going on at the schools where our children were via text with some great friends and families that worked there. I am so glad we have friends and family with our kids so that we can keep in touch when needed to make sure they are okay when times like this arise.
Our children's teachers and the staff kept all of our kids calm and safe. They said they all did remarkably well! The mommy in me wanted to bust out of work and drive straight over there to pick them up and take them home; however, I knew that wasn't realistic with storms all around us and more tornadoes heading our way...so I stayed put. Jerry was right there close and could be there in a minute if needed!
All in all, this whole time period last almost 3 hours! Crazy, Crazy, Wild, LEAP DAY....
the one we will remember for YEARS to come!
Here are a few pics from today. Our local insurance company, a subdivision and othe random houses and business' had some severe damage. I also have some video that the hubby caught on his phone and will upload it once he gets home....he's been out working admist all of this mess all day! However, there is no place he'd rather be. He's been coordinating the rescue and clean up efforts in the subdivision area.
Here are two links to some stories:
