McBride Messages: Witnessing a Miracle of Life and a New Beginning!

In the summer of 2007, Jerry was working that day, and at that time the EMS station was housed in a temporary spot near the southern end of Hardin County right near I-65 while their new station was being built.

Jerry and his partner had just returned to the station from a run and a call for a unresponsive patient at the Long John Silver's parking lot was paged out. They were less than a mile from that location and were able to jump right back into the truck and head that way. It wasn't their turn for a run, but they were the closest so they took it. It was a young female that had quit breathing. She and her sister and boyfriends along w/their parents were on their way from Louisville heading to Florida for a summer vacation. While on the way down Leslie, quit breathing and they were right at Exit 91 and pulled over in the Long John Silver's parking lot. Jerry and his partner were on the scene within minutes and were able to revive her after several attempts. She spent several weeks in the hospital (in Louisville) and ended up having a pace maker put in her chest. They found out she had a heart defect that they had not been aware of. Jerry visited her and the family quite often and have since kept in touch with them. We've had dinner with them and they call regularly to check in and let us know how she is doing and to check in on us.

It's no doubt that God had his hand in this because this was during the time that Jerry was still so sick and he was on and off work so much, and this just happened to be one of the days he felt "okay" and ended up going to work. Had it been any other day, he probably wouldn't have been there and circumstances could have been so different. Everything fell right into place with the right crew, the right people, the right dr's, nurses and timing! God is so Good and Leslie has made a full recovery!

Several months ago we received an invitation to her wedding! We were so excited to able to be a part of her special day! She and her family live in Louisville; however, in the past few years they have built a huge cabin and a horse camp in the Horsecave area here in Ky. We've been there a few times and that is where they chose to have their wedding. It was such a beautiful perfect day for them. We just stood in awe at the fact that she is a living, breathing miracle right before us and we've been able to see her recover and now get married!

It definitely reminds us, and reinforced to Jerry that this is why he became a paramedic! There are special people on this earth to be in the healthcare field and I am thankful to be married to one of them!
